Jolyan Silvera, former Member of Parliament for St Mary Western, is facing murder charges in connection with the death of his wife, Melissa.
Detectives from the police’s Major Investigation Division (MID) have formally charged him following an extensive line of questioning.
Melissa, aged 42, has now been laid to rest at the St Andrew parish church after being found dead at her residence along Diamond Road in Stony Hill, St Andrew.
Initially, her death on November 10 was reported as occurring in her sleep due to natural causes, just a month before her eighth anniversary.
However, a post-mortem examination conducted three weeks later revealed the presence of at least three bullet fragments in her body, prompting the authorities to initiate a murder investigation.
Fitz Bailey, Deputy Police Commissioner of Crime, stated that the police are confident in having sufficient evidence to proceed with a compelling prosecution.
The tragic turn of events has brought the focus onto Jolyan Silvera, who now faces serious legal consequences in connection with his wife’s untimely death.
