Popular South African Afro-Pop singer, Bulelwa Mkutukana, popularly known as Zahara is dead. She died at the age of 35.
The award-winning singer died of liver complications.
She was hospitalized in a Johannesburg hospital, reportedly with liver complications.
Zahara’s family affirmed she had been admitted to the hospital in November.
South Africa’s Minister of Sport, Arts & Culture, Zizi Kodwa, stated that “Government has been with the family for some time now” while expressing grief over the passing of the singer.
He added: “My deepest condolences to the Mkutukana family and the South African music industry. Zahara and her guitar made an incredible and lasting impact on South African music.”
Zahara was named BBC’s 100 Women list in 2020. She also won many awards and recognitions.
In 2019, she revealed she battled with alcohol addiction.
