Three accused Nigerians have appeared in the Upington District Court, Northern Cape, South Africa over conspiracy to commit murder as well as rape.
This was disclosed by National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Regional Spokesperson, Mojalefa Senokoatsane, in a recent statement. While making the disclosure, Senokoatsane said the three accused were part of a group of seven suspects that were arrested in Upington on 15 October 2023.
The statement read: “The accused Paul Ogor Ndudiokwe(46), Obinna Igbokwe (39), and Kenneth Ozor Onurarah(53), are alleged together with other suspects, to have conspired in a meeting that was held at the house of one of them situated near the town in Upington, to murder certain police officers.
“These arrests which are regularly for possession or dealing of drugs, were hurting their business, and causing them to lose money.
“The accused were arrested by the Police after receiving an intelligence report from a witness, who heard the discussions between the suspects, who are alleged drug dealers in Upington,”
During that meeting where the accused were allegedly planning to kill the policemen and it is alleged one suspect also said that he wanted to rape the wife of one of the officers in front of him.
During their first appearance in court, the prosecution demanded that the matter be remanded for a formal bail application.
The case was adjourned till Friday, 20 October 2023, for a formal bail hearing.
