Nichelle Prince and Adriana Leon were on target for Canadian National Women’s Team in a crucial 2-0 recent away win over Jamaica in the first leg of a two-game Olympic qualifying series.

Nichelle Prince scored in the 18th minute on a crashing header off a sublime cross from Ashley Lawrence while Adriana Leon’s stoppage-time goal sealed the victory with Leon running onto Gabby Carle’s pass and finishing with a great flip past Jamaica goalkeeper Becky Spencer.

The match was Canada’s first match after the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign where the team failed to survive the group stage after an unexpected 4-0 loss to co-host Australia in the final game of group play.

Canada had won all nine previous meetings with Jamaica, outscoring the Reggae Girlz with a cumulative scoreline of 60-1. But this was a different Jamaican team after their impressive World Cup appearance, making the win all the more sweet for coach Bev Priestman and her squad.

Jessie Fleming captained Canada with 40-year-old soccer legend Christine Sinclair on the bench.
