Ontario Premier Doug Ford completely repealed his government’s Greenbelt land grab. He announced the development at a recent press conference today in Niagara Falls.
While making the announcement, Ford said: “I made a promise to you that I wouldn’t touch the Greenbelt. I broke that promise. And for that, I am very, very sorry.
“It was a mistake to open the Greenbelt.”
Ford has been under constant media backlash since a damning Auditor General’s report in August that was critical of his government’s handling of the Greenbelt lands.
He appeared remorseful while explaining that the lands would be returned to the Greenbelt.
He said: “I said when the Auditor General (Bonnie Lysyk) released the report that the process was flawed. (As of) now, we are following the recommendations.”
