Two Toronto men killed, six wounded in Ottawa wedding shooting

Ottawa police have revealed that a recent shooting that occurred at a wedding reception in Ottawa’s south end left two men from Toronto dead and six others injured.

The shooting took place outside the Infinity Convention Centre on Gibford Drive, close to Hunt Club Road and the Ottawa International Airport, where the victims were attending a wedding. Police stated that the shooting occurred outside of the facility.

Residents living nearby said they heard between 20 and 25 gunshots around the time police were called. The police revealed that there were no further threats to public safety four hours after the reported shots.

The two deceased were identified on Sunday as 26-year-old Said Mohamed Ali and 29-year-old Abdishakur Abdi-Dahir, both from Toronto. They were confirmed dead at the scene.

The spokesperson of Ottawa paramedic, Marc-Antoine Deschamps, said the six people who were injured were not in life-threatening condition.

Meanwhile, Ottawa police homicide unit is investigating the shooting and asking that any witnesses or anyone with cellphone, dash cam, security video or any other recording of the area between 10 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. to contact them. No arrests have been made as of Sunday afternoon and no description of any suspects has been provided.

In a statement, Acting Duty Inspector Amy Bond said: “This violence is tragic and unacceptable. It is disturbing for our entire community. Police are reaching out to community leaders to ensure the families of the victims are supported.”

The investigation is in its early stages and there is no information so far on “any specific community targeted,” Bond said. He added that police currently have no information to suggest the shooting should be investigated as a hate crime1.
