There was tension in Sokoto recently over alleged blasphemy of the holy Prophet of Islam, Muhammad (SAW) as Usman Buda, a butcher at Sokoto Abbatoir, was killed by a mob over the alleged blasphemy.
Police have however intervened and calmed the tension by commencing an investigation into the incident with a view to nab the perpetrators.
While confirming the situation, Sokoto State Police Command’s acting Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Ahmad Rufai, said: “Following alleged blasphemy of the holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW), one Usman Buda ‘M’ of Gwandu LGA, a Butcher at Sokoto Abbatoir was mobbed.
“Usman Buda was attacked by some Muslim faithful and inflicted serious injuries on him.
“Upon receiving the information, the Commissioner of Police, Area Commander Metro and DPO Kwanni led a team of policemen and all other operational commanders to the scene.

“On arrival, the mob escaped the scene and left the victim unconscious where he was rescued and taken to Usmanu Danfodio Teaching Hospital Sokoto (UDUTH) for treatment and was later confirmed dead at the hospital.
“As I am speaking with you, the situation is under control. Investigation is on to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to book.”
The ASP added that the Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, Ali Hayatu Kaigama, urged residents of the state to go about their lawful activities and should not panic as the situation was under control.
