3 teenagers charged after racist flyers posted at school as ‘revenge plan’ in Ajax

No fewer than three teenage boys have been charged with printing racist words and offensive images on flyers and pasting them around the Ajax area with the aim of getting revenge on two girls.

Police recently responded to the area of Rossland Rd W/ Ravenscroft Rd in Ajax after being notified of the offensive flyers that were pasted in the area.

The flyers had hateful images and an anti-Black slur, mention of “cleansing services.”

Police revealed that five flyers were recovered with each of them including a contact phone number.

Further investigation reveal that the phone numbers belonged to two girls that didn’t know their numbers were listed on the flyers.

From the investigation, were able to determine that three teenage boys were involved.

Investigators further revealed that a 17-year-old boy had prior contact with the victims and as an act of revenge, he created the flyers with their phone numbers with the hope that the content would make them to receive a negative response from the community.

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) has urged anyone who has a copy of the flyer to not share it.

DRPS said: “Despite the intent to cause distress to the female victims, the flyers contain hateful messages that have and will continue to cause distress to our community.”

Officers disclosed that the offence was initially investigated as a public incitement of hatred but after reviewing the evidence and speaking with those involved, it was inferred that it was not the intended purpose.

A 15-year-old, a 17-year-old, and an18-year-old teenagers from Ajax have been charged with five counts of harassment by means of repeated telecommunications.

Both the 15 and 17- year-old’s identities are being withheld as they are protected under the Youth Justice Criminal Act.

Police reveal the 18-year-old’s identity is also being withheld in a bid to protect the identity of one of the victims.

Anybody with new information about this incident has been asked to contact D/Cst. Suthers of the West Division Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-579-1520 ext. 2542.
