Racist flyers have been discovered in a school and throughout neighbourhoods in Ajax. The discovery has triggered a police investigation and condemnation from community leaders.
The flyers contained “dehumanizing anti-Black commentary and imagery” and were seen pinned to a portable at Eagle Ridge Public School recently. Durham Regional Police confirm the discovery of disturbing imagery and writing in a neighbourhood near Ravenscroft Rd. and Rossland Rd.
At that time, investigators did not confirm the nature of the imagery but the Town of Ajax and the school have confirmed additional details. The Eagle Ridge Public School flyer was discovered by students and they brought it to the attention of their teachers.
The flyer had hateful images, anti-Black slurs, mention of “cleansing services” and a phone number to call or text “for more information.”
Mayor of Ajax, Shaun Collie, has released a statement which noted that the council was “outraged” by the flyer.
