Karim Benzema’s hat-trick during Real Madrid’s victory over Almeria not only returned the team’s return to winning ways, but also helped him smash a record as he overtook Hugo Sanchez to become the fourth highest scorer in La Liga history with 236 goals.
The 35-year-old player was in impressive form, scoring two close-range goals after cutbacks from Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo, before he converted a penalty to complete his first-half hat-trick. Though Almeria scored a goal back before half-time and even scored another goal early in the second half, Real Madrid were dominant throughout the match.

Benzema’s great goal-scoring feat is only surpassed by Lionel Messi (474), Cristiano Ronaldo (311), and Zarra (252). Real Madrid will hope to carry on with their winning streak as they prepare for their Champions League semi-final clash against Manchester City on May 9.
Despite Almeria’s great effort, which saw them score two goals against the defending champions, Real Madrid were able to secure a convincing victory. The fact that Eduardo Camavinga and Rodrygo both had diving headers ruled out for offside did not deter the team’s performance.
