Morocco, UN Sign Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, By Stanley Ugagbe

The government of Morocco and the United Nations have signed the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2023-2027.

NCNC gathered that the document was signed by Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and United Nations Resident Coordinator in Morocco Nathalie Fustier.

It was gathered that the framework was jointly developed by Morocco’s government and the United Nations Development System, and presents the priorities of UN agencies and entities to support national policies and initiatives in the country.

It is believed that the signing marks Morocco’s entry into its fifth five-year cycle in the development cooperation with the UN, paving the road for better implementation and assessment of the planned programs.

It was stated that the framework is considered the reference for the planning, monitoring, and implementation of UN activities in Morocco.

According to reports, the framework was developed following consultations with different stakeholders including private sector entities, academia, and social partners.

Several representatives from entities that participated in the workshops attended the signing ceremony, including ministerial departments and private sector actors.

The framework was also created taking the new direction of Moroccan development.

During the ceremony, Bourita said “This new Cooperation Framework signed represents the culmination of a transparent and inclusive dialogue and preparation in which all of the UN Development System component as well as the various Moroccan stakeholders have come together”.

He added that the framework is: “Part of the new generation of cooperation tools that resulted from the reform of the UN system for development,” emphasizing that it is also aligned with the objectives of the New Development Model.
