American professional golfer, Tiger Wood has denied allegations that he tricked his ex-girlfriend Erica Herman into leaving his Florida mansion, following their breakup in October 2020.
This was after Herman filed a $30 million lawsuit against Woods’ trust, alleging that she had a five-year oral tenancy agreement with the trust to stay in the house they lived in together for six years.
In their defence, Woods’ lawyers denied that any such agreement existed, stating that Herman was merely a guest at the home who had no legal claims as a tenant.
Reports have it that in a recent filing, Woods’ lawyers said, “During their relationship, Mr. Woods invited Ms. Herman to live with him as his guest in the Residence.”
The added that “Mr. Woods never negotiated an oral tenancy agreement with Ms. Herman. Nor was there ever a written tenancy agreement between Mr. Woods or the Trust, on the one hand, and Ms. Herman, on the other hand. Mr. Woods never transferred to Ms. Herman any ownership interest in or rights of possession to the Residence”.
Also, the lawyers denied the allegations that Woods left Herman stranded at an airport and kicked her out of the house. In their words, Woods had arranged for Herman to “stay at a local luxury resort” and had provided her with funds that she could use to apply towards a new residence.
They also criticized Herman’s decision to sue Woods’ trust rather than Woods himself, claiming that this move was “nothing more than a transparent attempt by Ms. Herman to avoid her contractual obligation to arbitrate and to gain leverage by litigating her disputes with Mr. Woods in a public forum.”
Reports have it that in addition to the lawsuit against Woods’ trust, Herman has also filed a separate lawsuit against Woodshimself. It was clarified that she is seeking to be released from a non-disclosure agreement (NDA)that she signed in August 2017 when she began dating Woods.
It is germane to note that the NDA prevents her from discussing their relationship publicly.
