Canadian politician, Marc Garneau, has resigned from his position as Liberal MP for the Montreal-area riding of Notre-Dame-de-Grâce-Westmount.
In his farewell speech at the House of Commons, Garneau expressed his appreciation for the constructive debates and discussions he had with fellow MPs and stated that he saw them as adversaries rather than enemies.
Garneau said: “To those sitting across from me: I want to say that I enjoyed the thrust and parry in this chamber. I’ve always viewed you not as enemies but as adversaries, and there is a difference.”
Despite their divided opinion on certain issues, Garneau said they all shared a common goal of making Canada a better place.
He said: “I know that every single one of you comes here wanting to make Canada a better place. We might have different views about how to do it and that’s fine, but when all is said & done, there is much more that unites than divides us.”
Garneau’s resignation came after he expressed his dissent over federal language legislation Bill C-13 and other matters.
