Igbo traditional rulers have directed Southeasterners to ignore any sit-at-home order and vote en masse during the forthcoming general elections.
The South-East Council of Traditional Rulers gave this directive in a recent communiqué released after the first 2023 Executive Committee Meeting at the Old Eastern Nigeria House of Chiefs in Enugu State.
Also, the meeting discussed the role of traditional institutions in fostering peace and security, as well as condemning the killings and vandalization of property in the South-Eastern region and Nigeria at large.
The council urged security agencies to make the environment conducive and safe for the elections and the Independent National Electoral Commission to act professionally and patriotically.
The communiqué was signed by the Chairman of the South-East Council of Traditional Rulers, Igwe Lawrence Agubuzu; the chairman of the Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers and the chairman of the Anambra State Council of Traditional Rulers.
