Famous singer, Davido, has paid Chioma’s bride price (Umunna) in full. He paid the bride price recently at Ezeala Odu, Imo state
He paid in full to Umunna group in Owerre, Nkworji Ezeala ofu Nkwerre Local government area in Imo State.
In videos and photos posted online, Chioma’s father could be seen carrying out the Umunna rites and umuada rites.
Umunna rites, the second phase of an Igbo wedding. is a meeting between the groom’s family and the bride’s extended family. This meeting is significant because the groom’s people have to restate their interest in marrying from the family of the bride-to-be in the presence of her Umunna (direct family, extended family and with family elders).
Once consent is secured, dates for the traditional wedding will be fixed and the bride price list will be sent out. The groom receives a few gifts like kola nuts, palm wine, beer, soft drinks, tobacco, snuff and a goat which will be shared between the families of the groom and the bride.
