Nigerian-born Canadian striker, Ike Ugbo, has explained why he decided to commit his international future to Canada and not Nigeria.
Ugbo flirted with the Nigerian Federation in 2017 while playing international football for England’s Young Lions and started filing a one-time change of association from England to Nigeria which was compulsory as he had previously played competitive matches for England U17 national team.

He publicly revealed that he would represent the Super Eagles and the opportunity to play at the 2022 World Cup was one of the motivating factors.
Also, Ugbo felt more connected to Nigeria than France and England because a lot of his friends are Nigerians and the rest have African connections.
According to The Athletic UK’s report, Ugbo changed his decision because “he never heard from then-Nigeria national team coach Gernot Rohr throughout the process”.

He added: “And I never grew up in Nigeria, either”.
