The Canadian government is planning to let a massive number of immigrants into the country. The overarching goal is to allow an annual influx of 500,000 people by 2025.
The Minister for Immigration, Sean Fraser, made the revelation, saying the move is necessary to ensure Canada’s economic prosperity. Undoubtedly, Canadian industries are facing a significant shortage of labour, with job vacancies across the country rising as high as 1 million.
This plan lays emphasis on increasing the number immigrants who will be allowed entry based on their skills and/or experience over the course of 3 years.
Ottawa is planning a more moderate increase in the number of family members who will be admitted into the country, and a decrease in the number of refugees.
It is believed that the plan was influenced by Statistics Canada that reported a record 23% of people in the country are immigrants or permanent residents.
