The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, and her husband, Prince Harry, have donated an undisclosed amount to those affected by flooding in Nigeria.
The gesture would offer succour to flood victims in Bayelsa, Anambra and other affected areas around Nigeria. It came a few days after Markle disclosed that she is 43 percent Nigerian.
According to Skynews, in a press release, a representative of Spotify confirmed that the royal couple is making the donation through their Archewell Foundation to “help provide relief following devastating floods wreaking havoc in Nigeria.”
Flood caused by torrential rainfall from climate change and inadequate drainage infrastructure has affected some parts of Nigeria in recent weeks. Over 2.5 million Nigerians have been affected.

Nigeria’s Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management revealed that 1.4 million people were displaced, and at least 600 lives have perished in the floods while the injured stands at 2,400 as of Tuesday.
Cities and towns in Anambra, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, and Rivers in the southern region have been affected.
The flooding is the worst Nigeria has encountered since 2012. According to the United Nation’s OCHA (Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs), the flood affected “more than 7.7 million people” in 2012.
