The owners of Manchester United, the Glazer family, want to sell part of their stake to lessen their control over the English Premier League club after Tesla CEO, Elon Musk joked about buying the football club.
According to reports, the Glazer family are willing to sell 49% stake to investors that are interested, as efforts to get them out of the club intensify among Manchester United supporters owing to their struggle in the EPL and inability to get top players.

Bloomberg reported that the 49% is a minority stake, with the Glazer family maintaining their majority control over Manchester United, which they bought in 2005.
The development could see Manchester United generate up to £2.4 billion, though its current market valuation on the New York Stock Exchange is around $2.23 billion.

The intention of the Glazers to sell came at a time when Musk disclosed that if there was any sports team he had the willingness to buy, it would be Manchester United.
Musk made this known shortly after he joked that he was buying the EPL club.
He tweeted: “if it were any team, it would be Man U. They were my fav team as a kid.”
