Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly has said it was “unacceptable” for a Canadian official to attend Russia Day celebrations at the country’s embassy in Canada.
In a report, the Globe and Mail newspaper revealed that deputy protocol chief in global affairs department of Canada, Yasemin Heinbecker, attended the event, alongside representatives of Egypt, Pakistan and some African countries.

In a Twitter post, Joly said: “No Canadian representative should have attended the event hosted at the Russian embassy and no Canadian representative will attend this kind of event again.”
