Russia has announced it had put Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, US President Joe Biden, and many top US officials on a “stop list” that prohibits them from entering the country.
Apart from Biden, US officials on the “stop list” include defence secretary Lloyd Austin, CIA chief William Burns, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and former Secretary of State and Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
The ban was in retaliation to sanctions imposed by Canada and United States on Russian officials. The foreign ministry later included Trudeau in the list of sanctioned individuals.
The ban appeared to be symbolic, as the foreign ministry revealed it was maintaining official relations and would make sure that high-level contacts with the people on the list could happen if necessary.
