The Canadian government is extending and slightly expanding, a travel exemption for Canadians that want to return home from South Africa.
Not too long ago, the government relaxed a requirement that Canadian travellers from South Africa should have a negative COVID-19 molecular test result before coming to Canada.
An update on the website of the federal government says the exemption will be in place till at least January 7.
Also, the waiver will apply to every eligible traveller on indirect flights departing South Africa to Canada, irrespective of the airline.
Under this exemption, the flight to Canada must leave within 18 hours after the traveller arrives in the country of transit.
Before this exemption, Canadians travelling from any of 10 African countries, South Africa inclusive, were mandated to get a COVID-19 test in the country they were leaving, and a second test while in transit in a third country before they arrive in Canada.
