The United Kingdom has disclosed that it is taking steps to get consular access to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, who was arrested in July and has since been detained by the Department of State Services (DSS).
While responding to Daily Sun’s question in respect of Kanu’s ongoing trial, Head of Communications, British High Commission, Abuja, Dean Hurlock, said the government of the UK does not talk about ongoing legal proceedings but the British High Commission was in contact with the Federal Government, Kanu’s family, and his legal team.
He said: “We are in regular contact with the Nigerian authorities and remain in contact with his family and legal representatives. We are taking steps to secure consular access.”
Kanu is facing trial before Justice Binta Nyako on charges related to terrorism, treasonable felony, and incitement.
