An extradition hearing for a former Canadian fashion mogul facing sex trafficking and racketeering charges in the United States has been pushed up a month.
Peter Nygard was initially scheduled to appear in court from Nov. 15 to Nov. 19. However, court documents reveal that the date has been changed to Oct. 1 after the Crown and Nygard’s Counsel made an appeal.
The Canadian was arrested sometime in December under the Extradition Act and faces 9 counts in the Southern District of New York.
The 80-year-old was accused of using his influence in the fashion industry to lure women and girls with the promise of modelling and other financial opportunities. Allegations that, according to Nygard’s Defense lawyer, Brian Greenspan, his client vehemently denies.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court of Canada denied Nygard’s request to appeal two lower court decisions denying him bail.
