In a bid to showcase innovations by African entrepreneurs, an organisation, Africa as a Platform, has organised a one-day programme which will bring together innovators from across Africa.
Themed: “Machines. Millennials. Money,” the programme would feature discussions on how young Africans could make use of new technologies to create wealth in the 21st century.
The event would also feature exhibitions by technology giants, including General Electric, SAP, Cisco and HP.

Speaking to our correspondent on Friday, the Managing Partner, Q21 Solutions Limited, Ms Eunice Adeyemi, noted that the event was organised to educate, inspire and support innovators in Africa. She stated that innovations taking place across Africa would be featured at the event, adding that Africans must be supported in order to solve pressing issues on the continent such as health care, agriculture and finance.
She also said despite fears by some people that new technologies would take away their jobs, the technologies would, on the contrary, aid them to do their jobs more efficiently.
She said, “The theme was considered based on the fact that millennials are mostly the ones taking advantage of new technologies. Almost every millennial today has a smartphone and they are becoming entrepreneurs through the use of new technologies. The event is to showcase innovations in Africa by Africans.
“Technology will aid us to do our jobs better. It would help us to be more efficient and effective. But as we know, with every new thing, there will always be fear. With changes come opportunities.
“I believe technology won’t take our jobs away if we adjust to new realities. Technology will rather provide more jobs and produce more entrepreneurs. It would help us to solve many pressing challenges in health care, agriculture, finance and so on.”
