Nigerian develops technology to help Muslims read Quran

The Founder and CEO of a Muslims-only social network, Tutlub, Mr. Yusuf Hassan, has developed a technology that can help Muslims track their Quran reading.
The United Kingdom-based entrepreneur said the aim of developing the technology was to help at least 100,000 Nigerian Muslims complete reading the Quran every month in 2018.
Even though there are Muslims who have always read the Quran from cover to cover, Hassan said the innovation would help them read faster and better.

He said via email, “The development of the technology resulted from some questions that I recently found myself asking. Are we monitoring and tracking the intake of information that goes in and comes out? Are we conscious of fake news that we read on different social media platforms and how it is determining our worldview?
“Are we balancing and countering these mountains of hate on our social media feeds with love, encouragement and supplications? And most importantly, as a Muslim, can you tell me how many verses of the Holy Quran you have listened to or read today, this week or this year?
“However, today, many Muslims can tell you how many calories are there in each meal. We tabulate the amount of exercise we do daily through different technologies, including mobile apps and wearables. What about our spiritual and religious development?”
Hassan said the questions propelled him into developing the Quran reading tracker, which would allow users set goals or targets on how many verses of the Quran have to be completed daily and weekly in order to meet those targets.
Hassan disclosed that there were plans to motivate young Muslims with monthly prizes for those who successfully complete the whole Quran each month.
