Foreign Affairs Minister, Marc Garneau has announced on Twitter that another flight conveying those that wanted to leave Taliban rule in Afghanistan has left Kabul recently with Canadians on board.
While making the announcement, Garneau tweeted: “Today, 10 Canadian citizens were on board a flight organized by Qatar, which departed from Kabul, Afghanistan, for Doha.”
“They will be arriving in Canada within days.”
The development happened after no fewer than 43 Canadians were part of 200 foreigners that were flown from Kabul to Doha through a commercial jet. It was the number one large-scale departure since the United States and foreign forces left Afghanistan on August 31.
Garneau said that the 43 Canadians would be back in Canada in the coming days.
He said: “Canada has been working closely with Qatar to ensure safe passage for Canadian citizens still in Afghanistan who are seeking to leave, and we thank them for their continued support.
“We are working tirelessly, including through close cooperation with our international partners, to bring home remaining Canadian citizens, permanent residents and their families and the vulnerable Afghans who have supported Canada’s work in Afghanistan.”
