Injured Canadian footballer and Bayern Munich star, Alphonso Davies, has explained a social media post has shared on the eve of Canada’s World Cup qualifying match against El Salvador.
Davies, who travelled to Germany recently to return to Bayern for injury assessment, left many people scratching their heads when he posted a photo of himself in Munich with the caption: “They won’t realize how big a part you play until you’re not there to play it anymore.”
The post was seen by his four million Instagram followers.
The 20-year-old has however tweeted to clarify the earlier post. The tweet was completed with a photo showing him pointing at the Canada crest on his jersey.
His tweet read: “The caption was just a caption, please don’t read into it.”
“I fully support the national team and there are no issues. I wish I could be there with the team tonight to represent my country. It’s disappointing but I can’t wait to be back on the pitch with them in October.”
Canada will play three World Cup qualifying games next month, away to Mexico and Jamaica and at home to Panama.
