22-year-old Nigerian, Steve Ezeonu, has emerged winner of the City Council run-off election for Grand Pierre in Texas, United States of America.
After Ezeonu won the election, the Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, congratulated Ezeonu on his victory through a statement by the NiDCOM Head of Media and Public Relations, Abdur-Rahman Balogun.

NiDCOM’s statement revealed that the young Nigerian- American amassed a total of 3,903 votes to win his closest rival, Greg Giessner, who got 3,720 votes in the run-off election.
In the local run-off election, the Democrat candidate, Ezeonu, got 51.2% of the votes while Greg got 48.8%.
Dabiri-Erewa said the victory of Ezeonu was hard-earned but well-deserved, as it points to the fact that “hard work and dedication to duty pays”.

She also said that she was not surprised by the victory of Ezeonu because his resilience, dedication, and doggedness were factors that contributed to his success at that age.
She said she contacted Ezeonu before the election to offer him words of encouragement and support.
The NiDCOM chief charged other Nigerians to copy Ezeonu’s achievement and strive to excel in their endeavours as “hard work is the key to success”, while charging them also to continue to demonstrate the never say die spirit imbibed in Nigerians.
She advised Ezeonu to ensure the fulfillment of all his electoral promises to the electorate as there are lots of opportunities ahead of him in the future.
Furthermore, she thanked Nigerian community in Texas for giving him their maximum support.
