Bernie Sanders ended his 2020 Presidential campaign today following his realization of the fact that he may not emerge as the Democrat’s Presidential candidate. That effectively makes Joe Biden the Democratic nominee for president.
Sanders said during a live-streamed video message that Joe Biden’s lead in the delegate count is insurmountable, as such, he had no choice other than to give up.
While speaking from his Vermont home, Sanders said: “If I believed we had a feasible path to the nomination, I would certainly continue this campaign, but it’s just not there.”
In his farewell message, Sanders labelled Biden as a “very decent man,” though he did not outrightly endorse him.
Joe Biden who is now the front-runner of the Democrats has pledged to factor in Sander’s quest for universal healthcare, income equality and free college. While reacting to Sander’s exit, he said: “While Bernie and I may not agree on how we might get there, we agree on the ultimate goal for these issues and many more. And, most important of all, we will defeat Donald Trump.”
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump, a frequent user of Twitter reacted to this development by advising Sanders and his team to pitch their tents with the Republicans. On his Twitter handle, Trump wrote: “This ended just like the Democrats & the DNC wanted, same as the Crooked Hillary fiasco,” the president tweeted. “The Bernie people should come to the Republican Party, TRADE!”
