A source within the Trump administration has revealed that the administration of Donald Trump is considering banning every member of the Chinese Communist Party and their families from traveling to the United States.
According to the New York Times, who contacted the source, senior administration officials deliberating on the matter have started issuing a draft of a possible presidential order, a move that would make the already damaged relationship between the US and China worse.
According to the New York Times, the source spoke on condition of anonymity and said the deliberations are still at an early stage and the issue has not yet been forwarded to President Donald Trump.
New York Times made it known that the ban which would focus on not granting visas to millions of Chinese citizens could be one of United States’ toughest actions against China.
The source disclosed the ban could affect the ruling Communist Party from the highest member down to its lowest member and would be sure to trigger China’s retaliation. Also, the ban could affect business executives, thereby harming U.S. interests in China.
While reacting to the reports, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said such action by the United States, if true, would be “pathetic.”
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo did not confirm the report but said: “We’re working our way through, under the president’s guidance, about how to think about pushing back against the Chinese Communist Party.”
While talking to reporters, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said: “We keep every option on the table with regard to China.”
