Senate Committee on Federal Character has asked State House officials to disallow President Buhari from embarking on further medical trips overseas in a bid to ensure the functionality of the State House clinic.
The Committee made this demand during appearance of State House Permanent Secretary, Tijani Umar, before the panel to defend State House’s 2021 budget.
Umar presented a budget estimate of N19.7bn for 2021 fiscal year, out of which the sum of N1.3bn was proposed for State House Clinic.
While reacting to the proposal, the Chairman of the Senate panel, Senator Danjuma La’ah, disclosed that the budget for the State House Clinic would be approved by the committee. He however insisted that the President and other top officials of his government should no longer be travelling abroad for medical treatment.
After the budget was defended, Umar told journalists that the statehouse would put in effort to ensure that State House Clinic becomes functional to address the medical needs of the President and other top government officials.
