The governor-elect of Enugu state, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has been found complicit in certificate forgery as the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has denied issuing him any certificate of completion of its mandatory one-year service.
Recall that he emerged as the official governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu state, Nigeria, ahead of the highly anticipated 2023 general elections after winning the primary election held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.
The 51-year-old polled a total of 790 votes out of the 807 cast by the delegates.
He subsequently won the governorship election held on March 18, 2023 after garnering 160,895 votes to defeat his closest rival, the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Chijioke Edeoga, who scored 157,552.
However, findings by NCN have revealed that one of the documents he submitted to the electoral umpire, Independent National Electoral Commission as his qualifications, the NYSC certificate, with NYSC number A808297, was forged as NYSC has denied issuing him any certificate of completion.
This was contained in a letter obtained by NCNC, dated February 1, 2023, and signed by the Director Corps Certification, Ibrahim A. Myhammad. The letter was in response to the inquiry of information on the NYSC status of Peter Ndubuisi Mbah and confirmation of his certificate by Mary Nneoma Elijah.
The letter reads in part: “We are pleased to inform you that the certificate of National Service belonging to Mbah Peter Ndubuisi with Certificate Number: A808297 forwarded for verification was not issued by the NYSC’.”
Ndubuisi’s forged NYSC certificate, raises concerns over the integrity and credibility of politicians in seeking public office. It also highlights the failure of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to enforce necessary sanctions or screen out politicians engaged in such corrupt practices.
Mbah, who was born on March 17, 1972, is a native of Owo in Nkanu East Local Government Area (LGA) of Enugu state, Nigeria.
In 2003, Peter Mbah was appointed the Chief of Staff and thereafter the Commissioner of Finance and Economic Development by the then governor of Enugu state, Chimaroke Nnamani.
