The Nigerians In Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has said three Nigerians, who have been stranded in Suvarnabhumi Airport, Bangkok, Thailand since March 21, would return soon.
NIDCOM made this known via its Twitter handle while responding to Richard Barrow’s tweets on Wednesday night.
Richard Barrow, a COVID-19 update provider in Samut Prakan, Thailand tweeted: “UPDATE: There are 3 Nigerians trapped at Suvarnabhumi Airport. Two arrived on 21 March on an Emirates flight with the intention to connect to Laos. The other one arrived on 24 March on Etihad with a connection to Myanmar. Unfortunately both of those countries closed their borders
“None of them could travel back to Nigeria as that route was closed too. As they didn’t have a visa for Thailand (they were only in transit), they couldn’t enter the country. So, they have been trapped in the airport for nearly two months now.
“The airport has been providing assistance such as food, drinking water and basic care. Airline staff have been helping them too. They were given a #COVID19 test which was negative.

While responding to Barrow’s tweets, NIDCOM said the Nigerian Embassy in Bangkok has got in touch with the three nationals that have been trapped at the airport since March 21 owing to airport closures caused by the pandemic. The Commission stressed that that would come back to Nigeria soon.
NIDCOM’s tweet reads: “UPDATE
“Three Nigerians stranded in Bangkok, Suvarnabhumi Airport, Thailand with Nigeria Consular officer (in a black jacket) and a Thailand Immigration Police.
“Our embassy in Bangkok is in touch with them and they will return home safely
“Hat tip to @RichardBarrow for his tweet.”
