The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has launched an online app with a database of every registered medication.

The online app is called “Greenbook” and it is accessible via the web among others.

The Director General of  NAFDAC, Prof. Moji Adeyeye, announced this during the launch at the NAFDAC office in the Isolo area of Lagos State recently.

While making the announcement, Adeyeye said: “It is a repository of NAFDAC-registered drugs. This momentous occasion symbolizes a significant milestone in our commitment to delivering quality, efficacious, and easily verifiable products to the market.”

“One of the things that we should be known for is transparency. Transparency is extremely important. It reflects our shared commitment to building a robust framework for pharmaceutical oversight and ensuring that Nigerians have access to safe and effective medicines.

“May it serve as a beacon of progress, guiding us towards a future where health care is characterized by transparency, accountability, and, most importantly, the well-being of our citizens.”

In the same vein, the Deputy Director, e-Registration and Data Management, NAFDAC, Dr. Dunoi Afam, stated that the objective of the app is to provide information on a specific drug to the broader public.

He said: “We’re launching this Green Book app now to be able to help our patients, our medical practitioners, and health providers, check the status of any medicine that is brought to them, maybe purchased or intended to be purchased. And so you can confirm the registration status of that product.

“If a product is registered by NAFDAC, you understand that that product has gone through the rigour of regulatory work, process on ensuring that the manufacturer of the product conforms to good manufacturing practices.

“Once you have accessed this app on your phone, web, or your laptops or computer systems, you will be able to check and confirm. And with this, you can even see whether a product is actually a fake product or an original product registered by NAFDAC.”

Also, the Deputy, Food and Drug Information Centre, NAFDAC, Khaled Musa, said: “Basically, it’s an innovation that puts the power of information in the hands of the people. You can access the app from the comfort of your home.”
