Nigeria’s Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami has said that the decision of the government to ban Twitter’s operation in Nigeria was taken to protect national interest.
Malami said this when he hosted British High Commissioner, Ms. Catriona Laing, in his Abuja office recently. He said the interest of Nigeria overrides other considerations, as such, any company operating in Nigeria must understand and respect this.

He said: “If you want operate as a business entity in Nigeria, you must do so within the context of Nigerian laws. Nothing offensive or that breaches the Nigerian laws should be entertained.”
While talking further, he said the Federal Government had constituted a committee on Twitter ban after Twitter approached the government on the issue.
He said necessary steps were being taken in a bid to ensure that pending Bills including the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB), were transmitted to the President for accent.

Also, the AGF discussed bilateral issues on Asset Recovery, Anti-corruption crusade, amendment of the Electoral Act, the Audit Bill, Petroleum Industry Bill, Twitter ban and counter-terrorism.
