The President of United States, Joe Biden, has revoked former President, Donald Trump’s suspension of many green card applicants from going into the United States.
Trump’s revoked order (Proclamation 10014) placed suspension on the entry of particular immigrants and non-immigrants into the United States since April 2020 in a bid to protect the labour market of the United States amid COVID-19 pandemic.
While making his proclamation, President Biden said the proclamation of his predecessor “does not advance the interests of the United States” and that “to the contrary, it harms the United States, including by preventing certain family members of United States citizens and lawful permanent residents from joining their families here.”
He said: “It also harms industries in the United States that utilise talent from around the world. And it harms individuals who were selected to receive the opportunity to apply for, and those who have likewise received, immigrant visas through the Fiscal Year 2020 Diversity Visa Lottery.”
The proclamation cancels parts of the ban put in place by Donald Trump but the ban on work visas still persists, though that is expected to expire at the end of March.
