Derek Ramkissoon is a Businessman, Philanthropist and a Community Volunteer in the city of Mississauga. He is a committed husband and father. He has been married to his wife Ellen for 32 years and they have raised two sons, Ben and Joel.
His business is a staffing agency called Helpfast which provides truck drivers and laborers to many large and small corporations around the GTA. He loves helping people and his business has provided thousands with a gateway to success!
Since 2004, he has been actively involved with In Christ Alone Ministries, an organization focused on outreach at homeless shelters and prisons across the GTA. They bring hope and encouragement for the less fortunate and those looking for a new start.
He is passionate about people and is active in uniting communities together for the common good. As a successful businessman, he has the vision, plan and capabilities to reduce wasteful city spending to keep property taxes down.
With the Crime numbers going up, housing affordability going down, recession looming, the city of Mississauga is much in need of a very capable leader like Derek Ramkissoon who can stand up to the challenges and lead the city into Unity, Safety and Prosperity for all in the city. Mentoring the Youths and leading them into the right direction with hope and purpose is one of Derek’s passion.
He is currently running for Mayor to bring about Unity, Safety and Prosperity in the city of Mississauga.
Below is his life story in his own words.
“This is how it all began in 1983 when my family moved to Canada from Guyana with hopes & aspirations for a better life. Within a short time of my arrival, I was presented an opportunity to be adopted by a very wealthy family. That opportunity would have made me an instant millionaire. I turned it down because I couldn’t leave my family for money.
“Family is everything to me. Few months later, me and my older brother moved to Mississauga from Edmonton. I was able to find a job, work hard, save money and then my family joined me here in this wonderful city of Mississauga that I now call home.
“Faith in GOD has been a foundational part of my life. Being part of the church here in the GTA, I had the joy of meeting my beautiful wife Ellen, who is my pillar of strength. We have been married for over 31 years with two wonderful children. She’s the one who has motivated & encouraged me to be the person that I am today which is a Entrepreneur, Business Owner (of an Employment Agency), Volunteer and an active voice in the community.
“Being a concerned, involved citizen, experienced businessman and one who has always been on the forefront of business development, I believe the present leadership is not geared to handle the upcoming major challenges ahead. There wasn’t a strategic plan against the pandemic nor for the businesses & economy, the crime situation & homelessness in my beautiful city of Mississauga.
“The experts are talking about a major recession, housing crisis, loss of income, another wave of the pandemic and a potential for increased crime.
“I firmly believe “. Where there is no vision, People perish”.
“We need a very strong and a strategic plan that can be adaptable and more importantly stronger action for the next few years to be able to handle the challenges.
“Honesty, Integrity, Compassion, importantly Sound Economics and Strategic Policy planning and executing are my key strengths.
“I will involve all the stakeholders in the discussions and decision-making to prepare a very strong, vibrant, resilient, affordable, safe and prosperous Mississauga.
“That’s why I am running to be the next Mayor of Mississauga.
“This is my story but it’s your story that matters.
“With your support, let’s make Mississauga the best city in Canada.
