Oyo State former Governor, Senator Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi, has died. He died at the age of 70.
Ajimobi died of coronavirus complications today in a Lagos State hospital. Before his death, he was in a coma and was on life support for many days. He was admitted at First Cardiologist and Cardiovascular Consultants Hospital, Ikoyi on June 2, 2020.
The former Governor died three hours after the All Progressives Congress (APC) disbanded the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) which was headed by him through Hilliard Eta, who acted on his behalf.
Ajimobi was rumoured to have passed on last Thursday but his family members and aides debunked the report and asked Nigerians to pray for his quick recovery.
Before joining politics, he was the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the National Oil and Chemical Marketing Company, a subsidiary of Shell Petroleum, Nigeria. After 26 years of active service in the oil sector, he left the sector in 2002 and was elected as a Senator of the Republic of Nigeria representing Oyo South Senatorial District under the platform of Alliance for Democracy (AD) in 2003.
Late Ajimobi was elected as the Executive Governor of Oyo State in 2011 and was sworn in as the Governor of Oyo State on May 29, 2011. He handed over to his successor, Governor Seyi Makinde on May 29, 2019.
He is survived by his wife and children.
