The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba Alkali, has eventually received the report of the Special Investigation Panel (SIP), constituted to investigate Abba Kyari’s indictment by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
A US Court in California indicted Kyari, the Head of the Police Intelligence Response Team, over the alleged involvement in internet fraud of over $1.1million by Ramoni Abba, also known as Hushpuppi. He is accused of collecting a bribe from Hushpuppi to nab and jail a member of his online fraud gang known as Chibuzo Vincent. However, Kyari has denied the allegation.

According to a statement issued by the Force Police Public Relations Officer, CP Frank Mba, recently, the IGP received the report on Thursday, August 26, 2021.
Mba made it known that the report was submitted by DIG Joseph Egbunike, the Chairman of the Special Investigation Panel, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja. He revealed that DIG Egbunike while presenting the report to the IGP, showed his gratitude for the level of confidence reposed on him as well as members of the team who were chosen for the task.
The force spokesperson said Egbunike disclosed that the report presented had the case file of the probe, evidence and findings as well as testimonies from DCP Abba Kyari and other persons and groups connected to the matter.
The statement added that an expeditious review of the recommendations of the probe panel will be undertaken by the Force Management team and thereafter sent to appropriate quarters for necessary actions.
Part of the statement read: “The IGP, who commended the Panel for the work done, stated that the essence of the probe was to carry out discrete investigations into the allegation levied against the Officer to enable the Force leadership to be appropriately guided in its decision-making processes.
“The IGP assured that a careful and expeditious review of the recommendations would be undertaken by the Force Management Team and thereafter forwarded to appropriate quarters for necessary action(s). He reiterated as always, the commitment of the Force to justice for all.”
