A 20-page autopsy report that was released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office has shown that George Floyd, the Black man who died after a police officer knelt on his neck, tested positive for Coronavirus in April 2020.
The autopsy report came under the family’s permission and it was made public after the coroner’s office released summary findings which confirmed that Floyd had heart attack while being tortured by police fficers. George Floyd’s death has now been categorised as a homicide.
According to TMZ, the Coroner said: “Positivity for 2019-nCoV can persist for weeks after the onset and resolution of clinical disease, the autopsy result most likely reflects asymptomatic but persistent PCR positivity from previous infection.”
This can be interpreted to mean that George was probably walking around without coronavirus issues or active symptoms while the virus was present in his body. Hennepin’s final report reveals Floyd had “no injuries of anterior muscles of neck or laryngeal structures.”
Charges against Chauvin had been upgraded by Minnesota Attorney, General Keith Ellison to 2nd-degree murder and the three other officers on the scene were also charged with aiding and abetting.
The attorney of Floyd family, Ben Crump earlier decried the official autopsy as explained in the original complaint against Chauvin, for ruling out asphyxia. An autopsy that was commissioned by the Floyd family revealed that he died of asphyxiation owing to neck and back compression.
