Canadian featherweight fighter Charles Jourdain delivered an impressive performance on a UFC Fight Night card in Las Vegas, securing a first-round submission victory over Brazilian fighter Ricardo Ramos.
Jourdain (15-6-1) wasted no time making an impact in the fight, landing early body kicks and punches on Ramos. When Ramos attempted a takedown, Jourdain capitalized by grabbing hold of Ramos’s neck. Although they ended up on the ground with Ramos in the top position, Jourdain maintained the choke. Ramos tried to escape but was unsuccessful, and Jourdain eventually secured a sweep, returning to his back and locking in a guillotine choke. Ramos was forced to tap out at three minutes and 12 seconds into the first round.
Speaking after his victory, Jourdain acknowledged his striking background but emphasized the importance of having grappling skills in his arsenal to defend against opponents who aim to take him down.
He expressed pride in being the youngest Canadian on the UFC roster and the Canadian fighter with the most UFC fights.
“I’m a striker, I need to have this little card in my pocket when I’m fighting these guys who want to take me down,” said Jourdain, referencing his grappling.
“Now I have two very good guillotine victories in UFC. I’m the youngest Canadian on the roster and I’m the Canadian [currently on the roster] with the most UFC fights. I’m very proud of that.”
Jourdain wasted no time in calling out veteran American fighter Cub Swanson, challenging him to a potential matchup in Toronto in early 2024. Fellow Canadian featherweight Kyle Nelson also expressed interest in facing Swanson following his recent unanimous decision win over Fernando Padilla from Mexico.
Charles Jourdain, a 27-year-old native of Beloeil, Quebec, had previously secured a decision win over Brazil’s Kron Gracie in May. This victory marked his second consecutive win in the UFC, bringing his UFC record to 6-5-1.
Ricardo Ramos, aged 28, saw his UFC record fall to 7-4-0 with this loss. He is notably the only UFC fighter to have achieved two wins via spinning back-fist TKOs.
The main event of the UFC Fight Night card featured a lightweight clash between Kazakhstan’s Rafael Fiziev, ranked sixth among lightweight contenders, and Poland’s Mateusz Gamrot, ranked seventh.
