Provincial Health Officer, Dr Bonnie Henry, British Columbia is lifting its universal mask mandate in healthcare settings.
Meanwhile, masks will still be required in some high-risk areas and for patients with COVID-19 symptoms who need health care.
Henry stated that masking remains a major tool in the healthcare setting, and healthcare workers would keep wearing masks based on their risk assessments. Also, the vaccine mandate for healthcare workers remains in effect.
Long-term care visitors and assisted living facilities will no longer need to rapid-test or tender proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

Testing and wastewater surveillance data from the B.C. Centre for Disease Control reveals a reducing transmission of COVID-19 and influenza across the province. Henry remarked that hospitalizations owing to COVID-19 have reduced from around 40 in early January to around 25 in mid-March.
Henry said: “We’re at a place where it is manageable, and it is not overwhelming the health care system.”
He encouraged people to keep following public health guidelines which include getting vaccinated, wearing masks in higher-risk areas, and staying indoors if feeling unwell.
