United Kingdom Prime Minister, Boris Johnson has survived a no-confidence vote that could have removed him from power as he encounters pressure over high energy, rising food costs and fallout over the Partygate scandal where his offices arranged parties during COVID-19 lockdown.
Members of Conservative in the parliament voted 211-148 in favor of letting Johnson remain in power during a recent secret ballot in Westminster.

In an interview with Sky News, the Prime Minister called the vote a “decisive result,” despite the fact that 40% of members of his party were against him.
He said: “I think it’s an extremely good, positive, conclusive, decisive result which enables us to move on, to unite and to focus on delivery (of services).”
Graham Brady, a Conservative Party official, announced that he had gotten letters requesting a no-confidence vote from no fewer than 54 Tory legislators, enough to trigger the measure under party rules. A few hours later, party lawmakers lined up by the dozen in a corridor at Parliament to vote in a wood-panelled room, dropping their phones as they entered to ensure secrecy.
Conservative lawmakers’ support for Johnson is weak as he is seen as a liability rather than an asset in elections.

Johnson needed to win the backing of a simple majority of the 359 Conservative lawmakers to remain in office. Otherwise, the party would have a new Prime Minister.
Following the result, Johnson cannot encounter any challenge for a year unless the rules are changed.
