Nigerian traders in Ghana have been urged not to leave Ghana over the imposition of $1million levy on them by the government of Ghana.
The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola gave the advice recently in Abuja when he was visited by a delegation of Nigerian Traders Association in Ghana. He urged them to exercise patience with the Federal Government which according to him was engaging with the Ghanaian authorities and other major stakeholders in a bid to address their challenges.
National President of Nigerian Traders Association, Dr Ken Ukaoha led the delegation.
Aregbesola said President Muhammadu Buhari‘s administration would continue to meet with the Ghanaian government to resolve the challenges encountered by Nigerians in Ghana.
A statement issued by the spokesman of the Ministry of Interior, Mohammed Manga quoted the minister as saying that the Federal Government “is pained by the condition under which the traders have been made to operate in recent times.
“Your pains cannot endure, we will not abandon you; no stone is being left unturned to remove the pains you are passing through in Ghana.”
He disclosed that the government was not shying away from the matter but “doing everything possible to make life better for its citizens in Ghana and other countries of the world.”
