The suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, has taken the Federal Government to court to secure his release from the custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
In his suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/182/22, Kyari is praying the Federal High Court in Abuja to force the NDLEA to issue him bail on health grounds, pending the hearing and determination of his fundamental right enforcement application.

It should be recalled that the anti-narcotics agency recently indicted Kyari, former head of the Police Intelligence Response Team, in alleged drug trafficking and related offences.
Subsequently, the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, handed over Kyari to the anti-narcotics agency for prosecution over alleged involvement in drug trafficking after the NDLEA released photo and video evidence to nail Kyari.
The NDLEA said Kyari, the suspended IRT head, was a member of a drug cartel that operates the Brazil-Ethiopia-Nigeria illegal drug pipeline.

Also, the anti-narcotics agency said Kyari got in touch with one of its officers in Abuja and struck a deal to secure the release of 25kg seized cocaine and offered a $61,400 bribe to NDLEA officers who played ball until his arrest.
In a statement, the IG corroborated the NDLEA’s findings, by saying incontrovertible evidence indicted Kyari in the drug crimes.
Also, the NDLEA said it would charge the cop and four others to court.
