Andrew Yang and Raymond McGuire are new candidates for the New York City’s Mayoral position and they have started wooing Nigerian-Americans and requesting for their endorsement in their battle to win the race.
They made their intentions known during the second debate that was organized by Nigeria Forum for the mayoral candidates to hear their views on major issues that affect the members of the community.
The Nigeria Forum is a union of the Organization for the Advancement of Nigerians (OAN) and the Nigerian-American Public Affairs Committee (NAPAC), a political action committee.
The Nigerian community has been identified as an organized and important voting bloc that possesses enough weight to offer meaningful support for any candidate whose agenda resonates with it.
While talking during the debate, Yang assured Nigerians of his plan to run an inclusive government if he wins the November elections.
He said: “I will need your help in very significant ways because my goal is to channel resources to different communities particularly, immigrant and undocumented communities.
“I will do everything I can do to include the Nigerian and African communities in my administration directly and I will invest in programmes that are going to benefit your communities very significantly and very directly.”
