A High Court in Accra will hold a conference call to hear testimonies of the parents of the two Canadians that were allegedly kidnapped in Kumasi last year June by four suspects on November 27.
The victims who happen to be students; Lauren Patricia Catherine Tilley, 19 and Bailey Jordan Chilley, 19, were kidnapped after taking part in a youth programme on June 4, 2019 in Kumasi.
The four accused persons; Sampson Aghalor, Elvis Ojiyorwe, Jeff Omarsar and Yusif Yakubu have been charged with conspiracy to kidnap and two other counts of kidnapping.
The accused have however pleaded not guilty to the offence. At the court, the first Prosecution Witness, a staff of the Bureau of National Communication was released after he was made to face further cross-examination by Longinus Chinedu, Aghalor’s counsel.
The two Canadians who were carted away from the gates of their hostel at a suburb in Kumasi were rescued by a all-Ghanaian security operation on June 11, 2019.
Reports have it that the accused persons kidnapped the victims who came to Ghana to carry out voluntary work and were residing at Kumasi.The accused persons kept them in an uncompleted building located on the outskirts Kumasi and asked for a ransom of $800,000.
Security operatives apprehended Yakubu at his house and he led the operatives to Aghalor’s house at Aboabo.
Also, the security officials arrested Orjiyorwe and Omarsa at Amoam Achaise while they held on to the victims at gun point. Orjiyorme and Omarsa threatened to kill the Canadians if the operatives did not retreat but they were overpowered, arrested and the victims were rescued.The security retrieved many items like hand grenade, knives, pistols and other personal belongings of the victims at the crime scene.
