The Premier of Ontario, Doug Ford has confirmed that saliva COVID-19 tests will be carried out at three hospitals in Ontario before the week runs out.
The tests will be conducted at Mount Sinai Hospital, Women’s College Hospital and University Health Network in Toronto.
While talking about the test, a senior government source made it known that the test shares similarities with what obtains in British Columbia and the test does not need Health Canada’s approval but the samples will still be sent to the lab for proper analysis.
British Columbia recently commenced a new saline gargle test for pupils from kindergarten to Grade 12 in a bid to make COVID-19 testing less difficult for children and teenagers.
Not too long ago, private and public health officials said that a saliva-based COVID-19 test would likely be available this fall.
According to Public Health Ontario’s Chief of Microbiology and Laboratory Science, the test will be useful for children and others who are not able to tolerate nasal swab.
