The alleged killer of South African-born doctor, Walter “Tokkie” Reynolds, in Canada will undergo a 30-day psychiatric evaluation after refusing to cooperate with local psychiatric centre’s staff. So far, he has not been attended to by a doctor.
The 54-year-old alleged killer, Deng Mabiour, is facing first-degree murder after he allegedly killed Reynolds with a hammer at the Village Mall Walk-In Clinic in Red Deer in Canada on August 10, 2020.
Reynolds and his wife relocated to Canada 15 years ago in a bid to escape South Africa’s high level crime rate.
Reports have it that Mabiour, an alleged drug addict, attacked him after entering the clinic and demanded pills that Reynolds refused to dispense.
Canadian Press reported that Mabiour recently appeared through video from Calgary, putting on a blue jail jumpsuit and sitting on the floor with his back against a wall.
According to reports, he said he was concerned about being compelled to undergo psychiatric assessment.
While constantly interrupting Provincial Court Judge Bert Skinner, Mabiour said: “I do not want to discuss this. First of all, I want to discuss the concept of my handlers considering I’m crazy and needing treatment.”
When he was ordered by Skinner ordered to contact legal aid to get a lawyer on time, reports have it thay he called legal aid “stupid” and said: “I’m good enough to talk in the court. … Why should I have a lawyer represent me?”
Mabiour also spoke about the quality of water at the psychiatric facility and disclosed it was “pathetic” that he needed to stay there longer.
He said: “That is a good idea? I don’t want the water. It has Covid.”
Much is not known about Mabiour but from what was gathered, his acquaintance said he migrated to Canada from South Sudan.
The case will continue on October 14.
